Fish Cutter

In 2009 while continuing my education I had to choose to do this work because the financial condition of my family wasn't going well. But I haven't left my education in the middle yet! I finished my SSC and now continuing to finish my higher secondary education besides running this business.

My father, Abdul Hoq Prokash Kamal Fokir who died a month ago was one of the oldest fish cutters in this market who had been doing this work for more than 40 years. He is the one who started this unique business at this famous market 'Boro Bazar' in Cox’s Bazar. The loss was hard but I along with my brother am now continuing this business at 'Boro Bazar'. I love doing this job because it's a Halal business and I want to keep doing it and support my family.

Business is going much better than before. We are getting to cut more fish as there's been a huge need for fish for the last 4-5 years because there are more people in Cox’s Bazar now. If I were to say in numbers if we got to cut 100-150 fishes previously the number is now 250-300+ each day. We can recognize the difference in our business and the amount of work we get nowadays.

I love to do social works as well and I am investing my time to help the people of my community. I want to extend this business so that I can support my family even more - Abdul Karim - 23 - Fish cutter
