my Rice paddies

I spend most of my time growing rice paddies. My father, my father's father, and his father as well as a farmer by profession. All of them used to do the same work. So it's a family tradition. We continue this tradition because we never buy rice from shops, instead we grow our own and sell the rest of them. The Rice Business isn't very well these days but I started doing a few other small businesses like growing buffaloes, cows, goats, etc.

Besides doing this work I started working as a fisherman back in 1996 when I left school in class 10. I was doing that side work very well. I used to get 30-40 Taka daily wages. Then in the next 4-5 years I saved a good amount of money and started working as a boat driver. I started earning more by doing that. Later in 2008 I finally bought my boat and put that into the fishing business. The following year my business earned a lot so I bought another boat and got married to start my family as a husband. In 2011 I was an owner of 3 boats and my business was going very well. But in 2018 my business went into a big loss and I had to sell all my boats. Now I am not doing that business anymore but I am really happy with my current situation.

I remember part of my journey as a fisherman back in 2000 when I couldn't come back to Cox’s Bazar because of bad weather for 7 months. We had to stay apart from our family because the boat was stuck near Kitubdia in Bangladesh. It was a terrible experience. We could die of cyclones and many bad kinds of weather but we survived.

However, now I am thinking of starting a buffalo business full time if I get proper investments because it's a dream to build that business. Besides that this rice paddies work will grow old with me and my upcoming family will continue it - Mohammad Farid Ul Alom - 41 - Farmer
